Baker Tilly Nederland logo

At Baker Tilly, sustainability is a strategic choice that strengthens our organisation for the future. We take responsibility for the impact of our actions on the planet, on people, and on the organisations we work with and for. That is why we are building a future-proof way of doing business, in which sustainability is not a standalone topic, but our way of staying resilient and creating value in a constantly changing world.

We believe sustainable business is a form of leadership. It requires direction, clear priorities, and the courage to adjust course when circumstances demand it.

Sustainability strategy

We embed sustainability in everything we do. Not as an obligation, but as an opportunity to create lasting value for people, organisations, and society. Our approach is built on three pillars: People, Planet and Prosperity.

  • People: we are committed to an inclusive and safe working environment, with equal opportunities, room for development, and a culture in which appreciation and ownership are central. We also actively contribute to social initiatives that extend beyond our organisation.

  • Planet: we are accelerating towards Net Zero by 2050 through renewable energy, sustainable mobility, and energy-efficient offices.

  • Prosperity: through transparent reporting, high-quality assurance, and data-driven insights, we help our clients become future-proof.

Interview on leadership and sustainability

Sustainable transformation requires strategic leadership. Does your organisation look ahead, set a clear vision, bring people together, and accept short-term trade-offs for long-term success? In an interview, Ming Ly (Director Interim Financials) and Mariska Schennink (Senior Manager Sustainability Services) share their perspective on sustainability at Baker Tilly.

Ming explains how sustainability is becoming increasingly important in tenders, bids and assignments, and why leaders play a key role in setting the right example. Mariska highlights that sustainability is not a standalone project, but a cultural shift that brings together data, behaviour and governance, and requires vision, courage, and the ability to challenge established ways of thinking.

Future-proof organisations are built by leaders who look beyond the short term. - Mariska Schennink

Environment & climate transition

Environmental and climate considerations are part of our daily way of working and doing business. We do this by gaining insight into our own impact and actively managing it. Each year, we measure our CO₂ emissions across offices, mobility and our value chain, in line with the GHG Protocol and SBTi standards. This provides the insights needed to make targeted choices and take responsibility where we can genuinely make a difference.

Based on these insights, we are working towards clear milestones: a 50% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2030 (compared to 2024) and Net Zero by 2050. The CO₂ Performance Ladder helps us make these steps measurable, auditable and transparent. This ensures our climate transition remains concrete and comparable, and continuously challenges us to improve further.

Social return & societal impact

At Baker Tilly, we believe growth is only truly sustainable when everyone can participate. That is why we invest in social impact initiatives, including social return projects and mentoring programmes in collaboration with various foundations.

One example is our partnership with JINC, an organisation that prepares young people with limited access to opportunities for their future careers. Since 2025, we have contributed financially to their programmes and our employees act as career coaches. In this way, we help create opportunities for young people while also contributing to the development of our own people at Baker Tilly.
